If you have Type 1 diabetes or have any type of diabetes and are pregnant, you should get your diabetes services from the team who are based at Dorset County Hospital Diabetes Centre | Dorset County Hospital .
The Dorset County Hospital diabetes team, provide some services in Weymouth and Portland for people with Type 1 diabetes.

Services for diabetes in pregnancy are based at the hospital in Dorchester.
​
With modern technology, much can now be done by telephone or video call so if you find it difficult to get to appointments, please let the team know.

​If you have Type 2 or other types of diabetes, you are likely to get your diabetes services from teams based in the community.

Your practice nurse or GP is likely to be your first stop for any diabetes queries. You also have access to:

Specialist diabetes nutrition support – you can ask for an appointment with the Diabetes Specialist Dietitian who does clinics at most of the Weymouth & Portland GP surgeries.

Diabetes specialist nurse advice – via your Practice Nurse.

New To Type 2
New To Type 2 sessions are a great introduction for anyone who has just got their diagnosis. Feedback is really positive and described as offering 'plenty of information', being 'easy to understand' and 'very positive'
You can do New To Type 2 in person or online. These friendly, informal sessions are run by the diabetes specialists (dietitian and nurse). You can join in as much or as little as you like.

Across two three-hour sessions, you will get information about the condition, have the chance to ask questions if you want and meet other people who are in the same situation as you; recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

New To Type 2 is run at venues across Weymouth and Portland.

Across three two-hour sessions, you will get information about the condition, have the chance to ask questions if you want and (virtually) meet other people who are in the same situation as you; recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

Virtual New To Type 2 is available on various days and times, including evenings.​

Refocus
If you have been living with Type 2 diabetes for a while, Refocus will give you a chance to refocus and refresh, how you manage the condition. You will get:

Updates on information and the equipment that is available

The chance to ask questions to a diabetes specialist dietitian and nurse

The chance to meet other people living with Type 2 diabetes
Refocus is run in venues across Weymouth and Portland. It is a friendly, informal session. You do not need to prepare anything beforehand and you will not be asked to share any personal information, unless you wish to.
